Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne, France

Salon

Single-vineyard, single-vintage blanc de blancs

The most ascetic and rare of the great Champagnes, Salon is a single-vintage, single-village blanc de blancs declared only in exceptional years.

History

Founded in 1905 by Eugène-Aimé Salon, who set out to make a single Champagne to his own ideal, Salon produces only one wine: a blanc de blancs from Chardonnay grown in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs. It is declared only in the finest years, and in a century only around forty vintages have been released.

Style and Character

Salon is pure, precise and uncompromising, made entirely from Chardonnay and only in vintages judged worthy. It is famously long-lived, often requiring many years to show its full potential, and is prized for its tension, minerality and extraordinary ageing capacity.

INVESTMENT NOTES

Why collectors and investors pay attention

Salon's extreme rarity, with only a handful of vintages released each decade and small production in each, makes it one of the most collectable Champagnes in existence. Its single-minded purity and scarcity give it a cult standing among connoisseurs and strong, resilient demand on the secondary market.
