Cellar Advisor

Partners

The strength of our network.

Three institutional relationships underpin every client portfolio: trade-only market access, qualified advisory credentials, and the UK's leading bonded storage facility.

The relationships that strengthen our advisory.

Fine wine investment is only as good as the infrastructure behind it. A portfolio managed without Liv-Ex access is paying retail. Wine stored outside a recognised bonded facility is worth less on resale and harder to insure at full value. An advisor without formal credentials is operating on taste alone. Our partnerships are not marketing relationships. They are the operational foundation of every client portfolio we manage.

Section 01

Industry memberships

Cellar Advisor's work is underpinned by membership of the institutions that set the standard in fine wine.

Liv-Ex

Liv-Ex is the global marketplace for the professional fine wine trade. Members include merchants, négociants, brokers, and advisors who collectively account for the overwhelming majority of investment-grade fine wine transactions globally. Membership is not open to the public. It is granted to qualified trade participants who meet ongoing compliance and transaction requirements.

Our Liv-Ex membership gives clients access to mid-market pricing that is unavailable through retail or auction channels. When you buy through Cellar Advisor, you buy at trade, not at the retail mark-up that private investors typically pay. On a £100,000 portfolio, the difference between trade and retail acquisition pricing is typically £8,000 to £15,000 over the first two to three years.

Liv-Ex also provides our sell-side infrastructure. When a client instructs a sale, we list on the Liv-Ex market and execute against live bids. Settlement typically completes within five to ten business days, with proceeds transferred directly to the client. The exchange's public price data is the standard reference for dispute resolution, insurance valuation, and inheritance assessments.

WSET

WSET, the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, is the internationally recognised standard for formal wine education. Level 3 represents systematic tasting methodology, advanced knowledge of wine regions and production techniques, and the ability to assess wine quality against recognised benchmarks. It is the qualification required by most serious fine wine advisory roles.

For clients, this matters because it ensures your portfolio manager understands what they are buying at a technical level, not just at a financial one. An advisor who cannot assess the quality signals in a specific vintage's barrel tasting reports, or who does not understand how storage conditions affect development, cannot properly manage an investment-grade cellar.

Every Cellar Advisor portfolio manager holds a minimum of WSET Level 1. Several hold Level 4 credentials. We do not employ generalist wealth managers and describe them as wine advisors.

Provenance, verified

LCB Eton Park

LCB Eton Park is an HMRC-approved bonded warehouse located in Nottingham. Part of the wider LCB (London City Bond) network, it is the storage facility of choice for the UK's leading fine wine merchants, auction houses, and private collectors, and the standard against which all other bonded facilities are benchmarked.

Every bottle placed through Cellar Advisor is held in a named client account at LCB Eton Park, not co-mingled with other holdings. Your account has a unique reference number. Cases are racked separately with individual storage labels. Temperature, humidity, and light levels are maintained to the precise tolerances required for long-term wine development.

Bonded storage means your wine sits outside UK excise duty and VAT for as long as it remains in bond. For investment-grade wine you do not intend to consume in the near term, this is the only rational structure. It also satisfies the provenance requirements of Liv-Ex buyers and secondary market participants. Wine that cannot demonstrate unbroken bonded custody attracts significant price discounts.

THE DIFFERENCE IT MAKES

What this means for you.

Trade pricing

You buy and sell at Liv-Ex mid-market, not retail. On a typical £100,000 portfolio that difference compounds materially over time.

Verified provenance

Unbroken bonded custody from acquisition to sale satisfies secondary market buyers and commands full market value.

Insured storage

Every case insured to current Liv-Ex value. Climate-controlled, named to you, and open to visits by appointment.

How to verify a fine wine advisor's credentials

Before committing funds to any fine wine advisor, verify three things independently: that they hold a live Liv-Ex membership (Liv-Ex can confirm this), that the storage facility they name is a current HMRC-approved bonded warehouse (HMRC publishes the register), and that advisory staff hold a recognised WSET qualification (WSET issues certificates with a verifiable qualification number).

We are happy to provide documentary evidence of all three on request.
