Cookie Policy

This policy explains how Cellar Advisor uses cookies and similar technologies on cellar-advisor.com, and how you can control them.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site work correctly, and some help us understand how it is used or measure our advertising.

Cookies we use

When you first visit the site you are asked to choose which categories to allow. Analytics and marketing cookies are not set unless you accept them. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.

If your browser is set to a time zone in the European Economic Area or Switzerland, or you are using the German-language pages of this site, nothing is loaded from Google and nothing is sent to Google until you accept analytics or marketing cookies, and then only for the categories you accepted. If you later withdraw your consent, nothing you do on the site after that is sent to Google. For all other visitors, including in the UK, Google Analytics and Google Ads load on our pages before you make a choice. Until you choose, and if you refuse, they receive only cookieless measurement signals, for example that a page was viewed. No cookie is set and no identifier is stored on your device for these signals. Google also receives your IP address and technical details that its script reads from your browser, such as browser and operating system version, screen size and language, together with the address and title of the page. Google Analytics sets cookies only if you accept analytics cookies, and Google Ads only if you accept marketing cookies. Refusing keeps it that way. If you accept marketing cookies but not analytics cookies, Google may still link Google Analytics measurement with its advertising cookies, for example to build advertising audiences.

For all other visitors, if you arrive by clicking one of our Google adverts, a reference to that click (such as a gclid code) may be added to the web address of the other pages you open on this site while Google cookies are not allowed. This lets Google link the visit to the advert without setting a cookie. If you send us an enquiry or ask for our price list through one of our forms without having accepted marketing cookies, Google Ads receives a cookieless signal that the form was sent. No cookie is set, and neither your email address nor a hashed version of it is sent.

Strictly necessary (always active)

• __cf_bm, cf_clearance (Cloudflare Turnstile). Protects our forms from automated abuse. Up to 30 minutes.
• NEXT_LOCALE. Remembers whether you are viewing the English or German version of the site. 1 year.
• ca_consent_v2. Records the cookie choices you made, so you are not asked on every visit. Kept in your browser’s local storage until you change your choice or clear your browser.

Analytics cookies (only with your consent)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and where visitors leave, so we can improve the site. It is not used to identify you personally.

• _ga. Distinguishes one visitor from another. 2 years.
• _ga_G93ZN4S9X2. Keeps track of the current visit for Google Analytics 4. 2 years.

Marketing cookies (only with your consent)

We use Google Ads to measure which campaigns bring people to the site and to show relevant advertising elsewhere.

• _gcl_au (Google Ads conversion linker). Records that you arrived from an advert, so a resulting enquiry can be attributed to the right campaign. 90 days.
• ca_attribution (set by us, not by Google). Records the campaign or link that brought you to the site so an enquiry can be credited to it. 90 days.
• IDE, test_cookie (set by Google on doubleclick.net). Used by Google to measure advertising performance. Up to 13 months.

Managing your cookies

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page. Declining a category stops those cookies being set from that point on. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, though blocking all cookies may affect how parts of the website work.
