Opus One
A landmark transatlantic partnership between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Mouton, Opus One brought First Growth ambition to the Napa Valley.
History
Opus One was conceived in 1979 as a joint venture between Napa pioneer Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild, uniting Californian fruit with Bordeaux winemaking philosophy. The first vintage was 1979 and the wine was an immediate statement of intent, helping to establish Napa as a serious fine wine region on the world stage.
Style and Character
Opus One is a Bordeaux style blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, polished and structured, marrying the ripeness of Napa fruit with the restraint and ageability of a classed-growth Bordeaux. It is consistent, refined and built to age.
INVESTMENT NOTES
Why collectors and investors pay attention
Opus One is one of the most internationally recognised and liquid Californian wines, trading in larger volumes than the rarer Napa cult names. Its Bordeaux pedigree, consistency and brand strength make it one of the more accessible entry points into New World fine wine investment, with steadier liquidity than the boutique cult labels.
