Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

Grand Cru

Known simply as DRC, this is the most revered wine estate on earth, producing tiny quantities of Grand Cru Burgundy from some of the most coveted vineyards in the world.

History

The Domaine traces its modern era to Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet, who bought the estate in 1869, and it has never been sold since. The Romanée-Conti vineyard itself takes its name from the Prince de Conti, an 18th century owner.

Since 1942 the estate has been co-owned by the de Villaine and Leroy families. Aubert de Villaine, who directed the Domaine for more than fifty years, retired in 2022, marking a major generational handover.

Style and Character

DRC produces only Grand Cru wines, made exclusively from Pinot Noir (with a tiny amount of Chardonnay from Le Montrachet). Yields are among the lowest in Burgundy and the vineyards are farmed biodynamically. The wines are extraordinarily complex and long-lived, prized for their perfume, silken texture and depth rather than weight.
