Margaux, Bordeaux, France
Château Margaux
The most perfumed and graceful of the First Growths, Château Margaux is the benchmark for aromatic finesse on the Left Bank.
History
The estate was developed into a serious wine producer by the Lestonnac family from 1572. Its neo-classical château, built in the early 19th century, is one of the most recognisable in Bordeaux.
Since 1977 it has been owned by the Mentzelopoulos family, with Corinne Mentzelopoulos overseeing a period of sustained excellence and significant investment in vineyard and cellar.
Style and Character
Margaux is famed for soaring aromatics and silky texture, often described as the most Burgundian of the First Growths for its perfume and grace. It pairs intense floral and dark fruit aromatics with a refined, velvety structure. The estate also produces a small quantity of white, Pavillon Blanc.
