History
Founded in 1864, Vega Sicilia is the benchmark estate of Ribera del Duero and the most prestigious name in Spanish fine wine. It has been owned by the Álvarez family since 1982. Its flagship Único is one of the world's great age-worthy wines, released only in suitable vintages and after exceptionally long ageing in barrel and bottle.
Style and Character
Built on Tempranillo (locally Tinto Fino) with a small proportion of Bordeaux varieties, Único is powerful yet refined, with great depth, complexity and a savoury, almost ethereal character that emerges with age. The estate's extraordinarily long ageing regime, often around ten years before release, is central to its identity.
