Oakville, Napa Valley, United States
Screaming Eagle
The original Napa cult wine, Screaming Eagle is produced in tiny quantities and enjoys a global following unrivalled in California.
History
Screaming Eagle was created by Jean Phillips, who released the first commercial vintage in 1992 to immediate acclaim and a perfect score from Robert Parker for the 1992. The estate was sold in 2006 and is now owned by Stan Kroenke.
It quickly became the defining example of the Napa cult wine: tiny production, fanatical demand and a years-long waiting list to buy directly.
Style and Character
A Cabernet Sauvignon based wine from a prime Oakville site, Screaming Eagle is polished, intense and beautifully balanced, combining ripe Napa fruit with structure and finesse. It is highly rated but it is scarcity, as much as quality, that commands its prices.
INVESTMENT NOTES
Why collectors and investors pay attention
Screaming Eagle occupies a category of its own in California, with a global brand following no other Napa wine matches. With production often only a few hundred cases, supply is minuscule and demand intense. It is the most recognised name in American fine wine investment, although the rarity means it trades less frequently than the Bordeaux blue-chips.
