Épernay, Champagne, France
Pol Roger
One of the great traditional Champagne houses, Pol Roger is famous for its association with Winston Churchill and for its prestige cuvée bearing his name, produced only in the finest vintages.
History
Founded in 1849 by Pol Roger in Épernay, the house has remained in the family for six generations, making it one of the few grandes maisons still entirely family-owned. Its association with Winston Churchill began at a Paris dinner in 1944 and endured for the rest of his life.
Following Churchill's death in 1965, Pol Roger added a black mourning border to the labels of its Blanc de Blancs sold in the United Kingdom, a tradition maintained for many years. The prestige cuvée Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill was first released in 1984.
Style and Character
Pol Roger is known for a classic, traditional Champagne style: precise, fresh and elegant, with excellent structure and remarkable ageing potential. The house excels at producing wines that are restrained and structured in youth but evolve beautifully over time.
Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, produced only in exceptional years, is the pinnacle of the range: a powerful, structured Champagne blended predominantly from Pinot Noir, designed for long cellaring.
INVESTMENT NOTES
Why collectors and investors pay attention
Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill has a devoted collector following and a track record of exceptional quality in top vintages. Its relatively small production, prestige positioning and strong brand story underpin steady secondary market demand. Pol Roger is one of the more reliable Champagne investments outside the very top tier of Dom Pérignon and Krug.
